ParticipantHaha. I started high value assuming I’d pay more attention. This is hard! Plus, it bounces out a bit with fast motion even if you are watching. Didn’t spill too much!

ParticipantHey Tracy,
We did a little one jump work. She’s great with a wing. So, I think she is trying to figure out jumping organization. The markers are at 5, 10, 15 and 20 ft. Bar at 12 in on left turns and 12 and a few at 16 on right turns. Ultimately she will jump 20 in.
If I use the Cato board how far in front of the jump would I put it? Also, I’d then just go back down the line so I’m not having her turn and burn over it?
I wasn’t sure what you meant by the outside hand. Did I do it correctly minus the swoosh towards the jump that she doesn’t need?
I might be brave enough to film the FC with a beverage after Pilates tonight. But, I’d hate to spill my cocktail!

ParticipantHey Tracy,
We tried the decel game again, but I think we need more help. Is there some game on the flat we should be trying? It doesn’t look lije she understands no motion means slow down. I know forever ago I was told to have them stop with you at the jump, feed a cookie and then jump. Is that something we should try?
Thanks!

ParticipantHer foundation class isn’t too hard for her. We barely do anything. Jump grids, go in a tunnel, work on a travel board or go around a cone. It’s the environment that’s hard. A horse ranch with people, horses, goats and all the dogs in their crates. She doesn’t just chill in the crate as she’s watching everything. I try to cover her if it’s not too hot, but… Plus, this are so do for her. She struggles to tug and return if she’s distracted. Hopefully she’ll sort it all out.
So, on the video you said not to reward if they aren’t collecting. If she turns at all do you want me to start moving regardless of where she takes off? I was VERY pleased that she could easily send the 16-18 ft. I didn’t use verbals at all in this session to see if my position held any meaning to her. I can probably do a two jump exercise in the backyard. But, no shaky shaky hand, correct? I should just be standing still?

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I haven’t even thought about entering Sprite even for FEO. We’ve just started in a live class about two months ago. She’s taking off and running the field. All of the dogs out are a lot for her and she’s not staying focused on me or work. So, not mentally ready at all.
You can’t see from this angle, but no motion is NOT a slow down cue for her. I wasn’t getting a check stride at all with me standing still. She did better with the sends. Then, maybe slightly better with me still afterwards. What else can I do to help her understand this concept?
It’ll be 105-107 this week, so I did the go tunnel, no tunnel exercise too. She did well with that.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Sprite did a lovely RC wrap in her class yesterday. Buy, she struggled to take jumps that were near a tunnel and not just dive in. So, I did some either or training at the end of the clip. I tried to pick up the serp sequences I didn’t do a few weeks ago. She’s launching a bit, but I’m too far away from the serp jump. Angles aren’t exactly the same as your set up as I had to work with what was in the yard.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantApparently my post yesterday didn’t post.

ParticipantHey Tracy,
The live participants made this look easy. We really struggled and not much went well. I have two clips, but Sprite was hot and not very enthused. Gemma had turns in between. Their commitment points are VERY different so I am trying to figure that out. I didn’t get the FFC to throwback footwork right at all and Sprite kept back jumping. I also tried the RC wrap, but she was done by then. Not our best moments.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Yes, “hey hey” is my turn tight out of the tunnel cue. I’m not sure she’s heard it much yet. You are correct the left and right was for the wing. We BOTH have a lot to do out there! Getting the mama correct is a work in progress. But, she did well as I really struggled with the tunnel threadle earlier. I’ll watch the arm position.
Here’s the first part of long lead outs. Bars started at 16, but I dropped them to 14. She was dropping the last bar. Not sure if the was chasing, fatigue or misjudging take off. Or, toy toy toss!
Connection! Connection! I know. The blind are still hard for me to rotate that far back. Plus, I wasn’t sure about the throwback front cross. I think I need less arm back?
I have the yard again tomorrow so hopefully the front cross drill can be set within what is set up. Open yard is rare!
She’s doing a lovely job at her start line stay!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
We had the empty training yard which is rare! First up tunnel threadles. She did so well! I’ll watch my threadle arm. I noticed it got sloppy when we went to longer sequences. We didn’t get to the tandem turn wrap as I wanted to also set up the first night of long lead outs. Sprite and Gemma were alternating turns to give her a break.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Yes, you absolutely get a heavily weighted vote! Thank you so much for your help. I mostly try to run like you teach. The hard part with online is sometimes my interpretation isn’t correct and the live people have different perspectives or don’t know what it is you actually recommended, 🙂
I said no to running with my arm extended outward perpendicular. You can’t really run like that anyway. The instructor just rolled her eyes and asked how do I keep the dog out on a line. She IS very accomplished with several dogs with double digit MACHs, the first AGCH in the country, won the 20 in invitational and has run clean in several national finals. But, a golden can’t beat a BC at a national.
I’m trying to run like you say, but I don’t always execute it well. Less footwork and more run works for me! I just need better decel mechanics and some FC footwork as you do occasionally need them. Where is the best place to leadout for the push? That worked well and I wouldn’t necessarily have chosen that move. I kicked the wing due to spacing.
Bars are 12 in and I don’t have much more space in the yard, I’ll bump them up when I have the training field. Hope to try the tunnel threadle lesson as we didn’t get too far with that yet.
Here is zigzag. It’s 95 out so I just did 4 reps. I’ll move the camera next time. Look, Sprite is playing with her toy toy more and more!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
I tried the mirror image leadout. Not nearly as much space and I kicked the upright once. Oopsie.
I’m just generally confused about foot work as one live instructor always has an arm extended out perpendicular to keep the dog out and starts with the dog side foot forward rather than back. Another follows OMD. I’ll have to think about leadouts as I will have one with Sprite and I don’t with Gemma so it just doesn’t come up how I should stand or what I should do. I’m starting behind and usually rear crossing with her.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHmm. I’m still confused. If the DOR and I’m turning left for a front cross you said have my weight on the outside leg and then said left leg. If she’s on my right I’d consider my outside leg the right leg and normally it would be back towards her. The leg closer to the next jump is my left leg. I’ll see if I can figure it out. Literally I’ve had no stationary lead-out for years. Plus, I’ve never figured out footwork for a FC and there’s a big variation.
Apparently I should read before filming. Pretty sure I did this wrong. Toy is supposed to be placed and I’m walking and throwing. Did I at least set her up right? She just found a straight line and bounced.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
So, what is your footwork for a lead out front cross? Since Gemma doesn’t have a start line stay I’ve no real practice for years! I’ve done some OMD stuff which does have you step to take off. What exactly should I try? If it’s the same set up. I’d lead out to jump three with dog on right. Is my right foot back, forward etc? Which way am I facing if I am not facing her to step to take off?
I’ll set the reverse up in my yard sometime this week. Maybe today if I get home before it’s too hot.
Here is lap and tandem turns. Not bad. I think I’m bending over too much?
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
It turns out I didn’t have the yard reserved Friday. This is my friends house. Bunnies, chickens and a new place. So, lots of distractions. She only broke one start line stay! Bars are at 12 in, but she was still knocking them. Maybe lower when I try the other side? She will jump 20 in.
