ParticipantHi Tracy,
We definitely did pattern games before her run. This was after. So by “play engaged chill” I assume you mean the pattern game with a delay and NOT the stand by my leg version? She won’t chew a chewie in this environment. Also, “short snuffle mat blasts” means what exactly? She snuffles in her down or just have her out snuffling why the dogs run?
There is a dog park near me where we can go and be safe. It’s pretty far from the action.
We may or may not have class tonight depending on the predicted rain. I’ll try to bring my tripod.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We don’t have much UKI. There’s a trial here in April 2024.
Today the reactive Aussie was absent, so I could be out with the other barking Aussie and a sport mix dog. I filmed her watching. She’s whining a bit, but doing well over all.
I did do pattern games (not filmed as I didn’t have a tripod) before her run. She’s eating, glancing at the dog, then looking at me, then eating. I THINK she got better each turn, but without video I can’t be sure. We tugged to the line and she sat pretty quickly today. Last sequence was a tunnel and I could send so I didn’t ask her to sit. Contacts were good. One time she couldn’t stop on the DW, but stopped 4 on the ground as soon as she finished and then started backing up to her 2020. So, I think she just didn’t collect enough to stop. The sequences didn’t allow a BC after an AF. But, I was able to layer a jump while she did her AF. Great class for her. Plus, we tried to get Xmas ornament photos since it was slightly foggy. Hopefully, we got one.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I’m not “avoiding” the exciting Aussie in class. We are NOT allowed out when that dog runs. There’s a similar Golden in her other class. No dog is allowed out when he runs. Both of those dogs are reactive and unpredictable. However, I agree that we need more work out around dogs running. I have opportunities to play with that. But, I will try the engaged chill pattern in class this week.
However, I’m super excited that she sat so quickly once she came back. I’ll rephrase the AF issue. She doesn’t usually come off, but I knew I’d be testing it with a BC and her arousal level. I need to work more of those on all contacts definitely. I’m super happy that she hit all weaves and didn’t pop. She tends to pop them in one class, but not the other. I think the one set of weaves is old and channels and they don’t stay lined up well. Should make it easier, but maybe it messes up her footwork.
So, should I enter the late Dec trial? It will be 2 rings again and is AKC?
P,s. It was the judge that said “nice Aussie” in the first video. She came over and told me as well after the run. That’s particularly nice as they don’t pay much attention to FEO runs.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
It was tunnel after the weaves in the previous video. If she stayed in…which she did…I was going to reward. But, I was facing the tunnel and she took it. No harm, no foul.
I’m sending two videos. We had the same handler ahead of us and her dog leaves the ring a lot. First is snuffle like you suggested.
However, on ring approach she’s watching the action. FAST was in the far ring. I took her leash off and she just left. No engagement, but I knew I didn’t have her walking in the ring. She just disconnects in that piece.
I called her and she lined up beautifully. Probably I should have put her back on leash and walked in again. But, I didn’t.
She then did some great weaves and the nice 180 back to the AF. I wasn’t surprised she didn’t stop with my BC. First missed contact. Still can’t figure out rear crosses. Then, time was up.
There is another trial the last week of Dec that’s two rings. I’ll be there as it’s my club. I’m not sure why I didn’t try tugging her into the ring. I feel like she’s so high that will make it worse. But, it also gives her something to do.
Pre run…

ParticipantHey Tracy,
She’s still very distracted in the ring. Unfortunately, the dog before her today and tomorrow is notorious for exiting the ring or running away from his handler. I tried to play either her, but I struggled to get her attention.
Then, I didn’t cue the turn from 4 to the teeter and she locked on a line clear across the ring. A few bars fell. Might be slipping versus just not paying attention to her form versus late information. We need to work on RC as she turned the wrong way on the jump after the AF.
But…great weaves into a tunnel! Contacts holding up. Lots of great stuff. Not sure what else to do to get her to pay attention as we walk in.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here’s our FEO run from today. This is T2B, but FAST is running in the other ring. She was very distracted going in, but she did sit. I opted to barely lead out. Contacts and weaves were amazing!
If the course looks nice tomorrow I’ll do FEO with a hidden toy. I’m having to talk to her a lot on the start line. She thought about leaving when the leash came off.

ParticipantHey Tracy,
I went to class tonight with Sprite. Unfortunately, there’s no video. She was really high, but she was able to line up, sit, hit hard weaves and do her contacts. We did pattern game and the volume dial off to the side. Toy toy was in my pocket.
But, I have a question about leash off, engagement on. She is not giving me eye contact, but she also not leaving. So, what then counts as engagement? She definitely lined up all 3 turns. Maybe slightly slower on the last turn. She was almost screaming, so I was pleased she could still hit contacts and weave in addition to lining up while her brain was in the stratosphere.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I’m not sure if it was the “yelling” of the numbers or the “yelling” of the barking dog that drew her attention more. But, she is entered next weekend in T2B. I didn’t enter FAST as you get much less time even for FEO. It would be 32 sec versus I think at least 50 or more for T2B.
Also, I did walk her up and back towards the ring entrance while they were course building. I didn’t take her leash off though or try a line up there. We did that by the practice jump the day before. T2B should be in that same ring next weekend. The caveat is whether or not I can run due to my knee. However, I think I can take Sprite in regardless.
LLW is a work in progress. It is hard in general. On walks Sprite likes to be in front and she’s on a harness. She’s not pulling really, but she’s not LLW either.

ParticipantAs you wish…
Day two of Sprite reality TV courtesy of Danika productions. I had her out prior to the first set just walking around and acclimating in the area. She was back in the crate for a bit before this was filmed.
The first film the ring was down and dogs were running in the far ring. She was brilliant. Then, I popped her back in her car crate. Round two is after a break when the far ring ran and then the near ring walked. So, it was at least 40-60 min between takes. You can see it’s much busier with dogs out and dogs are running in that ring. To answer your question about the prior video I did know that dog was close. Danika knew the dog and knew it to be stable. Sprite is very neutral to dogs. Although, she does like to say hi.
After the pattern game and volume dial video I walked her around a bit. Then, we decided to try the stands while the FAST class was still running. She’s definitely excited. But, she settled in. I took her out right after before her brain exploded. She was actually able to walk on a loose leash between several dogs out getting ready to run. One of those dogs is a hot barky mess of a lab that makes Gemma look calm. But, Sprite pranced right on by on her loose leash. I was rewarding her with food for that. I’m really happy with this and think was was better today. But, I’ll wait on the official word from you.

ParticipantHey Tracy,
Reality TV. I forgot to ask Danika to film horizontally. There’s agility running right behind Sprite in that barn. We started with pattern game, trued a nose touch and went back to pattern game. Then, some volume dial. Then I tried some engaged chill. Once I got her settle in she was good. But, she was pretty high at the start. Then, a little more volume dial and done. I forgot to give her a scatter. Oops!
After a break we went over to the practice jump. I didn’t have my “reality crew’ available at the time. But, she did a few line ups and jumps.
She’s still more distracted than ideal in this video, but I thought she did pretty good.
I can maybe go out again tomorrow.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantYou mean I’m a lucky thing!
Yes…I’m going out Friday to play outside the rings. Maybe practice engaged chill from far away. Plus, pattern games and volume dial. I’ll try to film.

ParticipantThere is a trial the next two weekends and New Years weekend. I’m waiting to see how the knee does before entering the later two. Its too late for this weekend and I can’t do much anyway. Next classes are next week assuming I’m ok. Luckily X-ray doesn’t show a fracture. So, hopefully just a bad bone contusion. But, I can’t bend it fully and it’s bruised and still hurts a lot. So, I can’t aggravate it either. Really irritated with myself for tripping!
It would be great to have you closer! But, your voice is in my ear a lot! Haha. 😛

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I hope you are recovering from the US Open! I’m still not able to run and my knee is swollen and bruised. So, I can’t set up the sequences yet as I’m not able to run.
I did a few set ups with remote reinforcement and tugging to the line. The bar dropped because I deceled and I wasn’t clear which caused the back jump. She got rewarded for both as the point for Sprite is getting to the line and setting up. I saw your post under Cindi and Ripley about dropped bars. If it becomes an issue I can work on that. But, these were my inability to move and cue appropriately.
Happy Thanksgiving!

ParticipantI’m envisioning sustained chill outside the ring while waiting for her turn. So, it would be after leaving the stash. That’s why I asked. But, it isn’t fluent be any means yet.
Here’s punk panther creep. She thought it was fun. But, other than barking sister she’s not too excited in the backyard. In fact, she might rather eat hackberries!
It supposed to rain the next few days. I’m hoping Sunday is dry enough to set the course.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
I hope this is what you meant. Gemma barking in the background for authenticity! 😎
I’m a little concerned about the pink panther game in the real world. She could stay in my yard. But, she’s barely hanging on in class with whining and ready to go. However, she rarely breaks once I actually get her to sit. You can see she almost left on one rep here based on my motion. Sprite caught herself. Good girl! Do you want to see the pink panther in my yard?
Also, where’s the engaged chill with the remote reinforcement? Do we add that later? I didn’t do the tug to the line today. She didn’t seem to need it and my knee is still pretty bruised.
