ParticipantHi Tracy
<I figured she would be fine with this game when she jumped on the board sideways right at the beginning LOL!>
I haven’t been so sure about this game, and still a little ‘yikes’ about it even now.
Week 1 Teeter – Mountain climber – Treat Toss
Did this this morning before it got too hot or started dumping rain yet again. Had a little issue with the supporting jump moving on the first one that we had to work through before really getting into tossing the treat – the grass is making that a pain, takes forever for her to find the treat – only cut it a couple of days ago and it’s already so long again. Left in all the reps as we worked through things.
Week 3 – Teeter – Love the Slam
Did this at the end of the above session. Teeter maybe 2in off the ground, have to figure out encouraging her to put her back feet on the plank as she wasn’t into that today.
Week 5 – Lazy Contacts game
Just read and watched this one and confused a bit as I think I missed a contact game somewhere?
Is there a game introducing the end behaviour for the contacts? Did I miss it? There have been plank games (mving across the plank) but I don’t recall anything re end behaviour?
From the video I can’t really tell what you are doing end behaviour for HS as the text is going over it a lot and the vid quality seems lower but maybe not a nose touch as there seems to be more pawing of the target? With Contraband is it a nose touch? I think so, but not the ‘traditional’ repeated NT?
Still not sure what I want for Beka other than not the traditional repeated nose touch I taught Ziva and Rayven. She just isn’t as food-driven for all the shaping work that needs.
I am using a transparent target taped on the end of the teeter for the teeter work so I am not putting PB ans sardines right on the teeter to keep the mess down. Maybe use the with a foot target???
Thanks

ParticipantHi Tracy
Now that she is out of season and interested in food and treats again I figured we can get back to the teeter work.
Week 1 – Teeter Mountain Climber
We have done a few sessions, some on a lower height teeter and now at full height teeter. It’s too tall for me to really pick her off decently and she isn’t wanting to turn on the plank (she does have concerns about the height) so I put a table beside it for her to get off. Working for Peanut butter and sardines right now.
Next time will try more of a sit or cookie toss to get to the end of the board before she climbs it.
Thanks

<Only one thing to remember: As you go from the wraps to the race tracks. remember to make the verbals sound different – the wrap verbals can be choppy like you had them, but then make the left/right verbals more elongated like they were at the very beginning – rii riii riii and leeeleeee leeee. Yes, take a breath in there sometimes, but the differences in how ou deliver the verbals will be helpful on bigger courses.>
Yes, I noticed that at some point I changed the way I was doing the leee/riii and not making them longer and only saying them once at times – not sure why, prob concentrating on using the correct word.
<We did early on with the turn away games on wings/cones, so the pups will be fine. Make sure your physical cue is clear first, then add the verbal back on.>
Hmm, I looked through anything from MP 1 and MP 2 where I thought we might have done something like that and only found the tandem turn work – is that it??
See the PDFS now. thanks!

ParticipantHi Tracy
Finally got a chance to rework some of the week 3 countermotion game.
Here are the videos for that. I still need to work on words, mostly the starting and change to the next word, I hang on to the previous one too long making the next one too late. She is definitely starting to tell me when I am late 🙂
Week 3 – Countermotion Step 3
Week 3 – Countermotion Step 4
Week 3 – Countermotion Steps 5 and 6
Question about Week 3 Concept Transfer Straight Lines Four Ways. For the Rear Cross wrap the verbal would be the wrap command but I don’t recall any game in MP2 where we did those verbals with the dog on the ‘wrong’ side of us for the verbal. EG/ DOL and do the wrap turn to the left. I only recall using those verbals where we were on the side of the dog they would be turning to. Did I miss something? Think I will need to work that separately to show her that in isolation.
Oh, one other q – are there no pdfs for Week 4??
Thanks

Went to download the info for week 4 and didn’t see any pdfs? Are there no pdfs for Week 4? Only the videos?

Thanks again for the awesome weekend! Was a lot of fun! So awesome to have you back after the past 2 years.
I snuck in the first step of the Wing It game tonight after the rain cooled things off tonight. Hopefully your flights home go/went well.
Week 3 – Counter Motion Step 1
This is the entire session except for the play at the end, was easier then trying to edit all those little sends. Two mistakes on my part. first one she was facing the last wing she went around when I started my send back for the next wing. Not positive why she didn’t send around the wing on the other one.
Added in the Step 2 and 3 this morning. EEK – doing it I felt like I was moving away soonerr then the video shows on the Step 2 portion. On the Step 3 I suddenly realized part way that I wasn’t sending backwards on the second wing – so only a couple where I do that and I am not a good at the transition from one to the other in the one direction.
Step 2 –
Step 3 –
Thanks

ParticipantYAY! You made it to Toronto! Hopefully with everything.
Will try both of those suggestions next time we get a chance. Might be able to do a bit after the seminar day is over, well not Saturday – I expect I will be beat!
OK, I might leave those RC’s until later in on that case.
See you in the morning.

She did pretty well with the tie out this morning. a little confused with me jogging and using her words depending on where I was relative to where she was tied up but think she is getting it. Will bring out a cot for her to be on to start getting her used to waiting there also.
Week 2 – One Step Send and BX to Tunnel
She was awesome! I think I even got all my verbals right, some timing a little off, especially around the second use of the right/left verbals. I used the right/left verbal for the BX to the tunnel since that is what it is. On the breakdown for the BX to the tunnel she was a little unsure, coming out of the sit and turning over the jump a lot slowerr than normal, but in the sequence she was a lot faster. Pretty sure she slipped in the tunnel on the last sequence.
Q – On the bonus RC sequence how do you suggest we break this one down for just the RX portion?
Hope your trip up goes smoothly! See you tomorrow!

ParticipantThat would take forever. I might try doing a tie out with her like I have done when she has gone herding, she is pretty calm so that might work.
So sad the the young dogs session didn’t get any interest for the seminar this weekend. SIGH.

Think I’ve got it all. I haven’t been running the sequences using the words, just walking. I don’t have a place to put her when we work on stuff and I don’t want her chasing around doing pieces while I do that (no, haven’t really worked on a place for her to wait as of yet – so much stuff to teach them).
Thanks!
Lori

ParticipantHi Tracy
Think I’ve got it on those two for the next time.
Week 2 – Wraps
Moved up to 6″ and locked them in place. She did hit a bar or two, one pretty good. This went pretty well overall. A couple of times she didn’t take the jump on the ‘warmup’ wraps but in the sequence was awesome in both directions. I got some timing pretty right on words and on the last one totally messed up the left/right even with verbally practising them before the rep. Been doing that on each sequence to try to get them right.
Week 2 – Blind Crosses and Front Crosses
Snuck this one in a few hours later before we get more rain. The blinds were fun and she read them fine even though I was prob a bit late on them. The fronts – well, late and I didn’t stay connected with her on the one side and she cut in behind me – twice. After the second I just did the wrap to practise the connection. Her first broken start line – so back to some rewarding in place (watching the vid after she also started moving on the one just before). I probably should go more lateral on the loops to make the crosses a bit easier but can’t always do that on course. At one point I was waiting for her to look forward, a dog had been barking at the neighbours and she was a bit distracted by it.
I left one comment in – LOL!
Now she gets a break from jumping stuff.
Thanks

<When adding the FC on the middle wing, you don’t need to send to the first wing and send again to the middle wing – you can keep moving for the first wing (letting motion/connection be the cue). Then as she is arriving at the first wing, decel/send to the 2nd wing so you can also FC and move away sooner. >
<Because she continues to pick up speed (yay!) feel free to spread the wings out more so you actually have an extra heartbeat to try to get the timing 🙂 It will be easier when she is jumping because you’ll have a heartbeat of hang time 🙂>
Ahh, ok, will adjust those things for another session. I was wondering if I should have just added more distance from the start for her, I dialed it back after I initially set it up bigger. I don’t really need any more speed right now – LOL!
Week 2 – Lazy Game Pt 2 and Pt 3
Yep, need to work on not using arms so much on the sends – thinking about the send a bit too much and they got HIGH – LOL!
I skipped the walking portion of the loop as I know she has a lot of value for the loop from the other work.
Week 2 – Timing and Connection
Surprise! (not really) going to have to move up my timing on stuff like this for now – way late trying to say the verbal on landing from the previous obstacle. Probably needs to be on the take off side for now on these distances and jump height (4″). Only did 2 reps in either direction, been raining off and on and tried to fit in between but went with it when it started to rain a bit harder. At least she doesn’t seem to care.
Oh, speaking of height – do you think we should stick with 4″ or move to 6″??
Thanks
Lori

<Today’s concept transfers are definitely sequence work so we don’t want to do more than 4 reps on each >
When you say 4 reps is that including the bits of backchaining or practising the key move before trying the whole sequence? While I did a bit of that today during the session I would do it again when I do the Wee2 stuff for ‘real’
Week 1 – One Step Sends
Did this one tonight. A little backward as I did some of the stuff from the live session that used the sends during the session.
She did well on this. I was late here and there. We did do a lot of play with the toys between reps and she was coming back faster – only one real loopy run with the toy happened.
Thanks

ParticipantHi Tracy
Ended up doing the ‘advanced’ type session before I saw your response as she did do this quite well I thought.
I was trying to keep the session short due to temps climbing or I would’ve played more with her between reps. did the same in the video below. Will play more in future sessions and do more of the play with the second toy when she comes back. She does pretty good bringing the toy to me on straight fetch games now and even starting to (sort of) give it to me.
>This is more of a skills session, so the full session can be taped, 2 or 3 minutes is fine. The handling stuff will be more obvious starting tomorrow 🙂<
Ahh, it was labelled concept transfer in the list so I figured it worked as you had explained in the guidelines. So the guidelines description is how it will work going forward?
Week 1 – Lazy Game – Adv (I think anyways).
Only has the first and last in it pinwheel in it. The middle section was doing the other direction and pretty much looked the same though.
I am thinking we want to stretch out the distance to the top jump a lot more over time.
Thanks

Week 1 – lazy Game – Baby – with toy
Have tried with treats, too hard to find in the grass and nto very interesting right now with her being in season. So did with a toy today. Wasn’t sure what constitutes a rep on something like this game so settled on one full pinwheel. So included 1st and last full pinwheel and one in middle. Still likes to play with the toys on stuff like this so it is interesting to do plus the whole season thing. It is what it is. Hopefully only 2 weeks left max on that.
Thanks
Lori
