I’m laughing this morning watching the video. She can only stay if she belly punches me first… Her mom can only stay at the start line if she bounces 2-3 times first. I just assumed it was an excitement release. Her mother goes straight up- does not touch me. Taq is better built, and straight up would be hard for her. She is built to jump forward in an arc.

    1. My question is should I try and get rid of this? She is inspired to do it when working closely with me in a confined area right now. If we are in the yard and I throw a toy and she returns she is not gut punching me. It does not hurt- I have lots of padding where she is hitting me 😉

    2. I took notes on your comments. I am as impatient as my dogs. I NEED TO WAIT BEFORE TOSSING TOY. I can’t believe you did not mention the fact that I used 4 different markers for the same behavior… arrg. I need to tell myself before I start which cue and be more consistent. I am torn about the throwback if I should use a different cue for food VS toy and a different cue for thrown back VS anywhere.

Get it- is treat thrown (forward or to the side- could be back)
Look- I tried for treat thrown back
Catch is toy at dog (I use this so it is in my brain)

Is it bad if I just use “get it” for the treat (meaning it will be thrown somewhere) and catch for the toy? I am obviously not clever enough to add two new words. Lucky for my agility dogs so far I rarely use verbals (because I would obviously use the wrong ones) but I want to do everything I can to help Taq run as fast as she can.

    Happy new year!!

Sorry for the long pause. I had things going on and then was course building for 4 days plus 32 runs!

I had 2 sessions of pivot and threw in some stays for toys.

Can your puppy offer behavior on a septic tank lid?

Thank you for repeating- use your verbals on the wraps. I forgot again. Please repeat or use all caps if I am being dumb. Normally mom is not outside the fence so that was unusual. I do think Taq is a bit of a looky loo so something to work on. I can have her mom in a pen right there for the entire session (yesterday she was coming and going). Today we will go for a long walk and I will introduce the MM and use my verbals on some wraps 😉

OMG what a great training day for us. Conquered our rear cross demons. Of course the answer was I am late… 100% on rears today with more space to cross 😉 Also OMG STAY. Transitioned outside on a cato board. I was not sure how to handle the mistake. I made it easier but …
Added more a toy in hand but not visible to the barrels.

Re the target mat. I definitely had no ability to send her ahead even when I introduced a pre-loaded bowl. Time to break out the manners minder? I have lack of obstacle focus on her mom so I am worried about that with her. She randomly through this session (3 times) ran off to kiss her mom on the nose outside the fence and then raced back to work. So maybe a bit too much distraction. However the re-engagement was super. And I kept it super short for me – likely too long.

One more thing- yesterday we did no training but she came to work with me. Road in 3 elevators, took the stairs, self entertained during my meetings, asked to go outside (ie no accidents), road in airline bag in car on front seat- worked to reduce some previous evidence of anxiety in car and the road home in metal crate and had no panting!!!! I patted myself on the back for being a brilliant dog trainer!

Still working on this rear crosses. I am definitely having trouble working with a toy in my hand. Advice? For now the bra is working! She had no trouble with the get out. Her barrel races were a bit slower today. She was slightly less wild. I have never used a dish before and again my mechanics are horrible. I should have been saying dish not get it.

So summary of my words (that I have not been using). Get it- throw treat ahead, dish treat in bowl, look treat thrown behind, good treated delivered, x puppy comes and gets treat.

Toys- toy dead toy, chase thrown toy, strike toy in hand, catch ( never used on her) I throw toy to you. She is so small this may never happen. Looks like I have an 8” girl here.

Thanks for the marker reward reminder. I will work on that.

For the contact trainer I will switch to a clicker I think since her little feet are so quick.

We got to do an outdoor session. She was so pumped after the first session she ran laps around the yard!

We are back. My gosh I missed class and training! I did not record a session in here on the stool. It went well so I transitioned to the ground. I feel like I totally have something to work with now!!

This is going to be our kryptonite and I am determined to have clear fabulous start lines (and a running dog wall!)

Mini girl is looking like she will jump 8” all venues so fun for agility! I hate to switch jump heights.

I also added in her intro to her running contact Matt. If the rain holds off we will outside and do the barrels today.

Happy we have a light week since I am behind and trialing over new years.

The last of her canines came out during this session so we should be able to get back to tugging 🤣.

Sit! Much better with throwing the treats (no hands). I decided to introduce a word for food behind (look) half way through. I tried a toy but arousal got high or she got tired. I can try that again in a short session. I have a word for a toy thrown back- catch. When so I try without the stool?

Rear crosses are going slowly but we are making progress. On the parallel lines we are having mechanical difficulties. A few days ago she could eat Charlie bears but today she could not. I felt like this was better but she does not entirely understand.

I am going to the invitationals on wed – Monday so we will fall behind a bit. I did not do the running mat intro since I ordered a mat and it is not here yet. I do have a square so I could start that. Her retrieve is so good I shaped it a bit but did not record.
