Great seminar last weekend! It was nice to see you in person again.
Saphira’s training has been a patchwork. If you remember we struggled a lot when she was younger. So we’ve probably got quite a few holes in our training. She jumps 24″ so I’m jumping her at 20″ here. We finally had enough of a break in the rain to setup and run the Hot Topic! sequences.

    Sequence 2

    Sequence 3

    He’s a beast!
Here is our pre-game 1 – wrap verbals. But as I watch the video I’m wondering if this is supposed to be purely verbal only and I’m doing too much body help? But you will tell me. πŸ™‚

I’m not sure how long this class goes for and we are terribly behind but here is some wing wrap foundation on the garbage can. I added a step to the can at the end of this session and that helped alot.

I’ll do some backing up video tomorrow.

Technology is great when it works. πŸ™‚

So I was just saying that I had crazy on call and then our trip to Orlando for the Invitationals and then the holiday. So now we are back to work and are going to try to get caught up. He did get a ton of life experiences on our travels. He’s traveled a lot actually for being so young. But now we are settled in for the winter. Ready to get back into a regular routine.

I also said that his food drive is insane! So he is always acting like he is starving. He’s lean but not too skinny. I appreciate it since he gets alot of kibble all day for management. Yes, I had the food in my hoodie pocket. There is a bowl of kibble on the mantel for easy grabbing. So he was looking at that to see if he could help himself. LOL Which he’s been up there many times. He’s such a goat. He’s been on every surface in this house. Walks across xpens with covers and wire crates no problem. If it wobbles and falls no big deal. Teeter should be easy. Great idea to use lesser value food to see if that helps. Boring kibble. I was using cut up Lucys. I’ll get try this outside too where I have more room to get him chasing the toy. He’s got great prey drive and he’s good at tugging. At least he didn’t muzzle punch me in the eye like Letty did when we worked through this. LOL

So we attempted backing up tonight. The initial backup when well but then we struggled. I think I should use ‘get it’ instead of ‘yes’ and that might help him not be mugging my hand. And maybe bigger treats? I tried squatting down and that didn’t go any better. I could always do the backup to something method too.

Well, I wrote a long thing and then it bliped when I went to post and I lost it all. And I’m too tired to rewrite it. We’re happy to be back to work.

So here is Shaping In Arousal: Goat Tricks 1 (Baby Level)

and Wing Wrap Foundations kind of 1.5

Here is the 2 dish game. We had already done a session or two. I thought I had recorded them but I can’t find the videos. So we did dish to dish then I added a cone.

Here are the changes that you suggested. I feel like it went really well.
He broke his toe about 2 weeks ago so he’s taped for 4 weeks and not supposed to tug but he can still do some things so that is good. He thinks he is just fine.

It’s been a mixed bag but the last few runs back in September were good. It’s been alot of learning for me. Things I know but forgot or was lazy about or just need to learn about her. What works best is tugging at the line and then taking the tug and dropping it and running. I can do that in USDAA. I have to look about AKC and CPE (just doing a few non-aframe runs since I am TS). But that gets her energy up. Then she runs beautifully. I made shorter courses for her too (FEO) and choose where to reward. CPE courses are shorter so there isn’t always a good place to break the flow to reward so then I would just do it and reward at the bucket with her leash. We haven’t done CPE in a year though. I don’t think she’s trialed at all since September outdoors USDAA. I did enter a few AKC trials coming up. Just a class a day. JWW or FAST if it’s offered. It’s at our most frequented training school. I think now a nose touch back start or a collar grab start would fire her up too. Her arousal is going up in general. I don’t know if that answered your question. LOL ‘It’s complicated.’ πŸ™‚

I had hoped to get back to this class but the puppies have been all consuming. They go home Labor Day weekend so hopefully we’ll stick with the next class better before winter hits. We’ll keep working on these too before that class.

I’ll be watching for the next MaxPup to start also. But I’m in no rush. Puppy can grow up a bit. πŸ™‚ Especially since it’ll be a boy. LOL

Thanks for a great class and amazing feedback as usual. We made a lot of progress in important areas! And had fun doing it.

    Thanks! This is very helpful!

I’ll work on doing these with the toy on the ground. I’m also not doing a good job of marking before I through and that will probably help too. Agility goes so much faster than obedience and I forget words or say them late.

Will there be another class that starts shortly after this one with more handling skills to keep working on so we can get more work in before the ground freezes and the snow comes? πŸ™‚ Mazi is going to do Cynosports and the Invitational so we’ll be heavily focused on agility this fall once the puppies go home and she’s back in shape.

Here is Wingin’ It: Tunnel Entries And Exits. She loves ‘go’ πŸ™‚

We worked on serps again. I feel like I did better handling this time. I tried to do the longer course but the ending from the far end of the tunnel to the 2 jumps was hard. I probably need to angle the blue jump again or move the jumps further apart? And use my verbal?

    We played with serps today.
There is something around the right side of the tunnel and she won’t go there or setup and stay there. I don’t know if she got stung or something. But I’m due to move the tunnel soon anyways to not totally kill that grass. πŸ™‚

We did 3 jump serps but I forgot the camera was only on the 2 jumps. Oops!

We did the sequences. She did really well until I straightened out the jumps a bit. Her jumping was awkward but she tried. I moved the yellow jump in more so she didn’t have to go out to it. That seemed to help but I rewarded her after the 1st jump. Then we quit.

So Friday did not go well. I did not have the patience or energy to try to get her to work with me so we threw in the towel and I told her no complaining later that night when I was spending time with Mazi. She had her chance! LOL

Saturday we had a nice long hike in the morning and then we played some games in the afternoon. She did so much better!
