ParticipantSaphira turned 2 years old yesterday!!!
I have put Mazi in the van in the garage when it was cooler out but then Saphira started not going in the garage to get into the van when it was time to go. She was like no we train now. I will put them both in the van and go to the park and work on obedience. It’s ok if I cover Mazi so she can’t see and keep the van closed. So today I put Mazi in her crate in the house. She knew as soon as I didn’t put Saphira in that I was going to be working Saphira. She can’t see outside since the lower part of the sliding doors has film on it covering their view. Next time I’ll add a radio / Alexa music. So for this and for working Saphira it should work fine. When roles switch I think Saphira will quit going in her crate. We’ll see. Either way I need to just do something and work through it. ๐ Tonight was a good start. Karl can go upstairs and put his headphones on.
She did really good tonight and didn’t even think about the deer. I’ll interrupt her if she’s looking for them in the house. We have film on some windows but not the big livingroom one.
I’ve been using a variety of food. I’m not sure what is higher value for her. We use kibble in the house, outside I’ll use string cheese alot since it’s easy to throw and see, for tracking we use Fresh Pet or Lucy’s / Red Barn. For toy’s she seems to enjoy chasing me for the toy. I’m also playing toy games inbetween reps ie throwing the toy for her to bring back or letting her win and backing up so she can bring it to my and punch me if she wants. I’m trying to use toys I can dangle more for her to chase. For obedience I have little baca pillow things that she likes. She also likes her ‘lotus’ balls. Getting her arousal up with toys seems to help and also doing more reps so she understands the exercise and gets more confidence and clarity. Also, she seems to really enjoy running through tunnels. She’ll do them on her own when she’s zooming around or when Mazi is chasing her. Seems to be a great reward for do the hard thing then open up and run through a tunnel. Oh and flirt pole.
Here are some reps from tonight. It’s cooler today – 70 but very humid. Bits of rain off and on and some sun thrown in here and there. It hadn’t rained for awhile so I wasn’t worried about slipping.
Concept Transfer: Send And Go, and BC to the Tunnel – all mistakes were the human FC/BC same diff LOL
Bonus Rear Crosses! – hopefully I did these right. Should I be using a verbal on the turn? Her wrap cue?

ParticipantThank you for all of this!
I did notice that time she looked right at Mazi and wondered about that. I’ll see what I can do. I worry about poisoning crates in the house. Or developing new habits/patterns of not going in. She’s too damn smart. And they are so good right now. I’ll think on it a bit and come up with a plan. We’ll be going to 3 soon so it’s all going to have to change anyways. Seems easier to leave 2 in the house and go work one vs one gets worked and one doesn’t. I just need to make a plan and do it and go from there. ๐ The girls will be separated for a few weeks when Mazi’s puppies are little too.
The other distraction is deer. I think she chased one out of the pasture the other day and a few (maybe babies) hung out in the back field for a week or so. She looks out the livingroom window for them too. Deer send her into orbit but she comes back pretty fast. They walk along the area at the top of the screen and on the other side of the drainage ditch on the right on the other side of the trees. Hopefully it’ll fade as time goes and they haven’t come back. Thank goodness for the fence Karl put in 2 years ago! Also, it was 90. I’ll try to train later in the day or early and just keep all these things in mind in general until her speed and enthusiasm are built up more.
This really helped me see the importance. I probably ask too much from my curious independent puppy and have for most of her life.
“I think having her mom barking in the background is really hard, in terms of processing โ the brain has to devote a LOT of bandwidth to deal with being barked at and still process cues. Basically the barking activates the alar m in her brain, so then her brain has to actively try to de-prioritize that while also trying to follow you cues.”I would LOVE to get her going faster and be more passionate about things. A trainer recently commented that she does things but she’s not physically putting herself into it. We’ve also struggled with reinforcement as you might remember. The world is a wonderful place in her mind with so much to explore and discover. It has gotten a ton better though. I’ve worked hard. I see moments of crazy so I know it’s in there.
Keeping jumps low and working on speed works for me. I’m in no rush with her. She’s on her own timeline. No jump grids for now.

ParticipantI’ll do some more mountain climber with her tonight like you suggested. I think that will help alot.
She’s not fast but she jumps 20″ well. Nancy says she’s a nice jumper. Yeah, part of it is probably my dragging my feet to 24″ since it is a hard jump height. I put her to 12″ for the lazy game. It was at 10″. I’ll do some grids to work her up to 24″ in the mean time.

ParticipantI put the dogwalk plank on some tunnel bags and ran with her back and forth. Easy peasy!
We did more of the lazy game and I had better connection after she ate the treat. Just one miss of the jump. I had moved the middle jump out and then in the middle of this video I moved it out again. And we were able to do 2 jumps then a treat.
Mountain climber was an issue. We had an equipment failure since I moved it to avoid the sun and it was on a bit of uneven ground and she had a bit of a fall while turning around when the teeter moved. She’s pretty resilient. We struggled with the reward of the cheese on the end. I use ‘cheese’ to feed her cheese when she’s in a muzzle and we’re doing LAT on her station in the livingroom and working with the cats. So I think she thought I was bringing it to her. She had trouble driving ahead of me. So I think this is a good game for us to practice so she can get better at it. This video is after I moved the teeter and did a better job making sure it was stable.
Her competition jump height is 24″. In classes I’ve only worked her at 20″. What height do you think I should be putting the bars at for the games that use jumps? For the lazy game I have them at 10″. She’ll be 2 years old on Saturday.

ParticipantYay! I’ll move the top jump out and give it a go with better connection after she eats the cookie.

ParticipantWe’re excited to get started!
Here is our Concept Transfer: The Lazy Game – beginning and end of session

ParticipantI redid Live 1 sequence 2 and also did 3. The backside serps are hard for me so it was good practice.
I built the next course too so hopefully I’ll get some more run tomorrow.Heather Sather
ParticipantFinally it’s cooled off some. Here are some exercises from the first Live. We did 1a, 1b, and then gave 2 a go. But now that I’m looking at the video I did it totally wrong. LOL I’ll try it from the other (proper) side tomorrow.

ParticipantThanks Tracy!
Here is week 1 standard 2 first attempt.
I got lost on the first one at the end. Reverted back to course 1 after the super wide turn out of the tunnel. I didn’t notice the bar down after the teeter and forgot to reset it. Using her name seemed to be the key to getting her to turn out of the tunnel. It ran really nice.

ParticipantThank you!
We attempted the first Standard course from week 1 last night. I did not appreciate the complexity of it. Here are our attempts:
Heather Sather
ParticipantOh my goodness! I am not surprised I missed the wrap since I struggled with that when I walked it so at some point I forgot it for good. And that’s crazy that I assumed backside and didn’t double check it. LOL
We gave it another go tonight. The first one I got lost but her wrap was so pretty so I left it in. The next one she went to the backside instead of doing the wrap. So I played with it a few times to see if I was doing something. And I need to keep scatter cookies in my pocket to shut her up when I’m thinking. LOL Next rep was pretty good. I could do better but it was good enough so we quit there. It was a really fun course. I was most impressed with her going to 3 so I could go across the line and get the blind in on 5. A little bit of “I’m going to the toy” at the end until I reminded her there is more course to do first.
Also, Saphira ran little sequences at her in person class tonight off leash and didn’t run away (or knock over barriers) to visit friends. We’re making progress!

ParticipantThanks for the awesome feedback.
Like 10 days after I bought some tunnel bags from Clean Run they put them on sale for 20%. Ugh! LOL
I was mostly happy with this course and surprised at how “easy” it was for us. We just struggled with the jump after the last tunnel exit. I tried to push to the backside but she really needed a strong push to go and I tried doing one with I think a lap turn – pull dog in as you step back then flick them out. Both of them I got stuck there so it got messy.
First one I got lost. Second one I did the backside. Third one I did the lap turn thing.
Finally done with 4 weeks of on call and a 14 hour day on Saturday. Hopefully we’ll have lots of time to play agility now. Except almost 100 for the next 2 days!!! I did get the agility area watered the last 2 days so that helps. The ground was so dry and hard and dusty and probably slippery.Week 1 Jumpers Course 2 Attempt 1

ParticipantHi Tracy – are there PDFs for the week 4 lessons?
Heather Sather
ParticipantI think she usually hits the wing on the backside serps. Like she slices too tight and her shoulder hits the wing.
We’ve been working on 14. I was going to put it back in the sequence last night but then the neighbor came over to bale the pasture and I’m not trusting Mazi to work with strange men in the yard even though she would most likely ignore them. So we we able to play with it today. Thankfully it stayed overcast and even started raining a bit. We fumbled a bit since I hadn’t been practicing me moving past it but then we got it. Sadly bar 2 was down but really who cares – we got 14. Using my left arm on the push (and saying the right word) helped alot.
With 3 tunnels setup right now I’m tunnel bag poor! I just bought another set of 4 bags. But I could probably use another 4. Or even 8 since I only have 4 on the puppy’s setup. $$$$$$$$ LOL
I do like the line from doing a threadle slice on 14. I just don’t know if I’ve worked on those with her in a setup like this. Are there any other courses that I should go back to and review the skill?
Should I move on to the next Jumpers course? -
