ParticipantHi Tracy,
We have a small window before the next storm. The park is muddy, but usable. Sprite is starting to sit slowly on line ups, so I’m playing with arousal manipulation and I had the Cato board. I used that for part of the session. She did have a break in there too while I ran Gemma. At the end we tried the 10 tunnel game. She surprised me!
No extra tunnels!

ParticipantSprite is not the fastest sitter in general. The only 10 tunnel game I know is sending the dog through the tunnel several times and then asking for a sit. Is that what you mean?
I keep forgetting about the snuffle mat. I can’t leave it in her crate as she’d eat it. So, I have to remember to bring it along.

I added this since you haven’t been on yet. We went to the park and I played with breaks and the snuffle mat. At the end I did the tunnel game.
This was her second turn after Gemma. Sprite was whining in the car when it was Gemma’s turn. She stops after a short time. However, she can’t see as she’s in a varikennel.-

ParticipantHi Bobbie,
Yes, I often train at the park. My yard isn’t large enough. There is a canal with duck and geese, people, kids and dogs walking by. This particular one is on a cul de sac so less cross traffic. But, we often get people stopping and watching. In this session a man and his two golden are watching in the background part of the time. The clips are some line ups. Then, the crate with the agility CD running. It’s raining again for the next week or so. Doubt I’ll get outside in the next few days.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Yes, I meant the switch out to the jump. Maybe it’ll make more sense when I try it.
We got a storm break today. So, I did the switch away. When we got to the backside that was harder as she turned much tighter on one side versus the other. Or, I’m cuing differently. Either way, she kept getting the front side of the jump turning left out of the tunnel. Mechanically I should wait until I see her face at the tunnel exit before I turn my arm, correct? I’m not doing that consistently and it looks like I’ve turned my arm before she exits on some reps.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I’m looking at the week 3 combos and I’m confused about using a switch away when it’s the jump and not the tunnel like in the first sequence. It’s seems like a serp or a serp to a blind would be better there. I’m not seeing a line being set that tells the dog it’s the jump and not the tunnel in that instance.
I don’t know how to add a photo. But, it’s the one with the jump then pass the tunnel and take the second just that’s straight ahead. Hopefully you know which one I mean.

ParticipantThanks for the photos Tracy! My shoulders can be an issue and the photos were a great visual. Also, thanks for the verbal reminders. I’m sometimes not sure if a wrap verbal is correct even though I know it’s more than a right or left turn, but not technically a wrap. It’s probably dog dependent, but Sprite tends to jump long and early. I was pleasantly surprised that she got the threadle and the back side. Yay baby girl listening while the tunnel sirens sang the song of her people!
I have Cindi’s weather and it’s not cooperating. I’ll see if there’s a break in the next few days to try week three. My yard is not usable, but the park drains better. So, we shall see!

ParticipantWell, I had a tech fail moment today. Went to a new field with Sprite to work her running A Frame. She showed lovely self control staying in a down while we chatted or changed the A frame height. We got some nice striding at 3’3” and kept changing it ending at 4’6”. But, I didn’t turn the iPad back on for that session. I was going to show you the in between moments.
Instead, you get our session from the park yesterday. We are working on LLW. I changed to a “ground” marker as she kept jumping up to get her treat and I need her to just walk. Then, our session.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thanks for the videos. Basically this weeks switch aways are tandem turns, correct? I’m not great at those, but I can get Sprite to turn away easily on the flat.
The park is squishy, but fine to set up. Might get in one round of this weeks exercises tomorrow before more rain.
This is the last set from week 2. You asked me to start with the BC, but she slide by the jump. She did that a few times with the blind. Am I not doing something right with my shoulders? The forced front cross worked better in this set up for her.
Also, threw in a threadle to the front side that I didn’t do last week and a backside. She did them and didn’t take the tunnel!

ParticipantStill raining and more predicted this weekend.
I’ve never taught a switch command. Would it work equally well to use left and right coming out of the tunnel for these exercises? If not, do you have a game on the flat to teach “switch?”

ParticipantHi Tracy,
How long is this class? CA having rain again. I know we need it….but, it makes tunnels on the lawn impossible for days once it stops.
I’ll have a look at week three and we didn’t get to the last exercise in week two.
This is a perfect class for my tunnel seeking Sprite!

ParticipantHi Bobbie,
She does fair turns with no motion. But, when she’s running she doesn’t make an effort to slow down and collect. Here’s a snippet from the seminar. She was getting tired, do the start of the clip is re engagement. You can see she made little effort to turn. Then, Loretta made it a lot easier for her and had a toy on the ground. She’s still trying to pick take off spots and typically takes off too early. Must run fast!
The end clip is the last minute of a 10 minute crate session with you tube agility sounds on. We are getting rain again, so going to the park may not be available for several days.
P.S. do you know how I can get a repeat link to when is a reward a reward seminar? I watched live, but I’d like to watch it again. I emailed behavior vets, but didn’t hear back. So, I probably don’t have the correct email for this question.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Well, this was hard! I don’t really have enough space, so the wing and jump are closer than ideal and at a very flat angle. I’m not sure why it took me so long to do the blind rather than a front cross. The threadle wrap is not easy for me. I felt like I couldn’t set a decent turn on two and then was really doing a flick rather than my threadle arm. I’ll try that again when I can. It’s about to rain and I had to clean up before the rain and lawn people came. So, I did NOT look at my field notes. Saw the wrong hand on threadle wrap on the video afterwards and we didn’t do one of the threadle slices… that’s what happens when you don’t check and are in a hurry!

ParticipantSprite did well at the seminar overall. Her first time in an indoor building with all the noises was hard for her. I had to move her out to the car. She loves her tunnels! But, hearing dogs repeatedly run through them was a bit much. No shock that she struggled with collection for turns. But, great overall. She stayed with me, worked each time she was out.Tried to weave near a mirror. The first time she left to go stare at herself! Then, she weaved.
Here is exercise one. I modified as best I could due to yard size. We might get some rain again, but I’m hoping to film exercise 2 tomorrow in the AM.
I struggled to show a line with the tight space especially when the jump was on the outside of the tunnel.
I noticed in exercise 2 that you said to use your threadle command on the rep where it’s wing, jump, jump. Isn’t that really just a discrimination though? Do you use a threadle cue for both a true threadle and a typical discrimination? When I took Jordon Biggs threadle class she made a big point about what is and is not a threadle. But, I still get confused sometimes.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantAh…the magnet fingers. I remember hearing this concept once or twice before. 🙂 Thanks for the reminder.
Sprite, Gemma and I are doing a seminar the next three days. So, I did the combinations today. I actually reviewed each video after trying it and then looked at the next map. These were all one and done as I thought she did well and she’ll have a lot the next two days.

ParticipantThanks Tracy,
No, I don’t have more tunnel bags unfortunately. But, I think I forgot the third one when I started and added it later.
Collection is a work in progress for her! Sprite just started a “big” dog in person agility class. Last night the first challenge was a tunnel to tunnel send about 20 feet with a dogwalk restriction. Sprite nailed it! She even got the jump afterwards and I was nowhere near it. Long fast lines she loves. Turns….not so much.
Ok, I sometimes used the wrap verbal for the wing and sometimes did not as I wasn’t sure if you wanted us to use it. I will use it in the next training session. Here’s exercise two.
