    Hi Bobbie,

I’m glad I could listen to most of the conversation last night. Sprite, Gemma and I are going to a seminar this weekend. Hopefully, I can get some filming from there.

This is at the training yard last weekend. You gad wanted toy play to pattern games. It’s a bit hard to play with toys and have food in your hands to start the pattern.

    Hi Tracy,

    Exercise one.

The hardest part was getting her to line up between my legs. We haven’t done that much. Also, I know you are going to tell me to toss the toy on the other side of the jump. Jump was much harder than tunnel for her. However, she tends to jump long and in extension and I’m stationary and not moving which SHOULD be a turn cue. I really don’t want to dilute that as she tends to ignore it in general. So, I tossed the tunnel ones so she’d turn back and mostly had her come back for the toy after the jump. Hopefully that is ok. One time she took a bonus tunnel after the jump. 🙂

P.s. are we allowed to use our wrap verbal on the wing in exercise 2 and 3?

    Hi Bobbie,

Sprite’s class got canceled at the last minute. Here’s todays RAF session. She CLEARLY does not think “frame” gives her permission to leave the Cato board. She did great with the “ok” first. It’s just a mouthful to get all markers in at the right time. There is dehydrated lung in the lotus ball and just kibble for the resets.

Then, I did the bend grid and sent it off to see if that’s what the instructor meant. She honors the stride regulator. But, wasn’t as good yet without it. This is all I did. Ultimately, she needs to back up.

    Hi Bobbie,

I’m happy to hear your thoughts. The instructor felt she was having “thinking thoughts.” I agree she wasn’t clear. But, historically driving when I’m stationary isn’t easy for her. She suggested to move to the next exercise and try her lotus ball instead of the food bowl. Also, if I were in front she thought tossing a treat or rewarding from my hand might help her as she did well with that in prior exercises. However, the purpose of the bowl is to help forward focus. So, I think the lotus ball is the better idea. This was the first time with changing the reward strategy to the bowl in front so the picture was different.

Haha. Yep..Sprite was not taught with guides. She was shaped with 2×2 method. So, she’d jump over the guides as well as she wouldn’t understand why they were there.

Here’s this weeks video. Training session in the yard for running AF. Change the reward strategy and starting from a station rather than treat tosses. Sprite was correct, but not sure abs much slower that prior sessions.

Some training from today. Last night she joined a new class. Her puppy brain was very distracted with new dogs and new class. She did well overall though. I couldn’t get film from class last night. But, sane yard private lesson today.

Yes, she has done slice grids. But, she generally leaps into grids and doesn’t add the collection stride. Bending isn’t easy for her. She prefers to run fast and straight. Even with me standing still she doesn’t typically want to add a check stride to turn. I’ve taken a few jumping classes and I’m currently taking a tight turn class. The instructor wants another stride before she enters the grid and suggested a bar on the ground. I don’t have jump bumps. The advice was withhold reward if she doesn’t add the stride.

    Hey Bobbie,

I stopped because her footwork looked funny after the bar went down and she still got her line up cookie. Do you ever use differential rewards after errors? She actually likes food more than toys most of the time. But, I’ll try to be more mindful in the future. However, if you are rewarding everything for resilience then how do you differentiate between correct and incorrect criteria?

I’ll admit error protocols are the most confusing for me. Plus, inconsistent criteria can lead to all sorts of issues. Ask me how I know. 🙁

Sprite did really well overall though. One time all dogs were out and she stayed on task. But, while chasing her toy reward once she got close to the space of another dog. Sprite cane right back when called!

    Hi Bobbie,

I thought on 1-2-3 they were supposed to eat, look at you and then continue? I can move the bowls further away. It’s a bit hard to keep things in view of the camera on a tripod though.

I’ll try the tug to pattern games and see what we get.

This is from agility class. Unfortunately, my camera person didn’t film us walking out or in. I used 1-2-3 game, but I was stopping to feed. Also, she’s tucked in right by the tunnel bag on the second sequence. Sprite opted to check that out rather than take the tunnel twice. Then, she nailed it on her last turn. I put her in a down when the instructor wanted to show me something.

Also, the site didn’t notify me which is unusual as the box is checked. Hope you are enjoying vacation.

    Hi Bobbie,

I went to the park and did the 1-2-3 game, super bowls and the pattern feed game. Did you want one 3 min video a week or multiple smaller clips of not more than 3 minutes in total? I wasn’t sure so I combined them. Also, does each new week start on Monday?

I only brought two bowls as I was using a game for Gemma. We were tripping a bit on the leash with turning back so much. But, I’ll get my act together.

    Hi Bobbie,

Yes, I can do Monday at 3 EST. Since we didn’t get to meet last night what would you like us to focus on this week?

The video was from Oct when I started to heal and just before I pulled my calf again. But, I just got released to try some running!

    Hi Bobbie,

Most of Sprite’s training has been online. I’ll include some training clips at the park. She’s able to train there now. If it ever stops raining and flooding in CA, then she’ll be joining a Wed night class before Gemma’s class. Unfortunately, that means I’ll miss most of the Wed night chats.

I’m assuming your time availability is EST? My best 1:1 time would be the Sat 3-5 EST options. Mon at 2:30 EST could work. I might need to move some appts depending on the week our training falls.

Sprite is in a Tues foundation class that hasn’t meet for almost 2 months due to weather. Although she can watch Gemma on a cot quietly, she struggles to stay quiet in her crate there. Mostly it’s whining or a high pitched chirp due to excitement. But, I’d like to work on that before it gets worse. There isn’t an option to crate in the car for that class.

Here are a few training clips at the park and tugging outside an agility trial. Toy play can be fragile for Sprite.

    Thank you!

    Hi Tracy,

I like the idea of rotating the jump so she sees it. Plus, 3-4 was hard for her. In this sequence getting 3 the off arm is my left since she was on my right out of the tunnel. But, getting 3-4 the off arm would be my right arm as she is now on my left? The off arm to get a lead change or out is new to me and one of my instructors just shook her head on Thursday when I used it for an out in class. But, it worked! She asked me if I really meant to do that. Yes, yes I did.

I might just set the 3 jumps up and send her around a cone for the “ tunnel.” I don’t have yard space for this set up at home.

Yes, I agree this is all new to her and to be expected.

Plus, like I said we’ve been doing threadle training as it’s a particular weakness for me. Once she gets the concept I need either or to be sure sh3 understands not to come in unless I ask her.

    Hi Tracy,

Great job at the US Open. Those were some difficult courses.

We tried the distance sequences and I need help. What do I need to do with my arms and shoulders? Sprite got the first out jump. But, then wasn’t staying on the line to 4. If I got 4 she skipped 5. We’ve been working on threadles a lot, so that may be part of it. But, she didn’t understand the line from 3-4 or 4-5. I’m nit moving much, but I can’t with my calf pull. The first straight forward send she did fine.

I think I was turning my shoulders getting a turn off of 3? It wasn’t easy for Team Sprite although Gemma got it!

Yes, that might definitely help me. I can try to do the set with the “dogwalk” restriction. It’s supposed to rain this week, but maybe later in the week. But, I’m not supposed to run to show that line anyway.

Thanks Tracy! Whatever works for you is fine. I just wanted to let you know why I’m not posting like usual. I think I’m better and then try to run…and I’m not.
