    Hi Tracy,

My comment about Gemma being capable on the minny pinny was more about the spacing. Does it matter how far apart the jump bumps are?

I rented the training yard and made due with find the jump. Two sessions separated by training Gemma. I did not connect out of the tunnel on the first rep. After that, she was perfect. Tried to be a little behind, ahead and lateral. She liked this game!

    Hi Tracy,

In previous sessions I seem to get the threadle randomly. But, I just watched this session in total and it was just the one time. So, faulty memory. This was late in the session and after the FC. I think I’ll try changing the jump angle to help her. Ideally I don’t want to use a cross arm just yet as I do tend to use it for a threadle. The positions are close so I’d like a difference in body position. But, we aren’t there yet.

I did the minny pinny yesterday and I think the bump spacing is too close. Should it be about 5 ft? This clearly was much less. But, Gemma did it easily in both directions. Sprite is striding through on the left turns rather than jumping. However, this is hard for her and I’m giving her a day off today for turns. She definitely understands right turn much better. Do you think gradually moving her to neutral in front of me for left might be easier to learn the turn away rather than start on my left side for left turn away?

Haha. I’m the weakest link for sure.

I tried hard, but I still don’t think it’s an optimal body position. Of course, I twisted my back again. Sigh. I was also getting threadle on both sides and had to really narrow the gap to avoid that. What am I doing to cue that? I showed the one on the right and then what I’d cue if I wanted the gap. This exercise will take awhile for us.

Ok, so she’s center on my right side. Left turn which is her weaker side is a turn toward me so easier. Right turn which is stronger side is a turn away. Am I understanding that correctly?

Ugh…this session was awful. Major foundation hole with serps. Sprite kept not taking the jump. I had the same issue when I did backsides before. She’d find the line to the backside, but not come in. When I went back to sitting her she understood. But, add the wing and she just kept going to the reward. Way too many failures. I’m not sure what to do.

Yep, she definitely turned easier to the right. I was confused about the feedback, but I don’t know how to highlight. You said to move her to the center on the right turns. Did you mean about the contrast of RIGHT turn towards me and away from me from the center? You said the contrast of right turn away and left turn away. But, she can’t turn left away on an easy angle so I’m certain she can’t do it from center yet. I’m not sure I’m understanding what you mean. I think she might be able to do a right turn from either side starting more in the middle.

These jumps are 5 ft apart. It was MUCH harder. The first session she was bypassing the first or second gap. I started with a toy. Then, went to food. Then, took a short break. This was the second session. She did great here. I can see I’m releasing at the same time as the hand cue, but I don’t have time to say ok, pause, then use the hand cue or she’d skip the gap. Food then back to toy toy.

    Hi Tracy,

I measured and they were 6 1/2 ft apart. So, go to 5ft next? Then add more? Or, get to 4 ft on three before adding more?

So…Sprite really struggled to turn left away from me. Had to lure it. What else can I do? Also, should I go back to jump bumps? I can’t lock my bars and she is knocking them trying to figure out her footwork. She got the right turn away much easier.

Ok, that makes sense. I’ll try repeating the cues. I also realize that Sprite and right sound very similar!

We tried zig zag. She was a rock star so I added the third wing.

So, are you suggesting I say go and toss the toy forward but not keep moving? I don’t want to override my motion. Gemma struggles to turn from a tunnel and I did a lot of telling her to go while I slowed down or stopped. So, I don’t think she sees lack of motion as a turning cue and I don’t want to make the same mistake.

Yes, I can seeing pointing hands and looking forward on video while Sprite looks at me for information. More connection!

I actually did have ties on the ground in front of the tunnel at both ends, but they are black so you might not be able to see them.

I’ll try releasing commands. But, then does that become the cue where everything needs to be released multiple times?

    Hey Tracy,

I was at a dog trial and we had rain Sat and crazy wind Sunday. So, I was only able to out the tunnel exercise back today. Sprite still has some questions, but I think it’s coming along.

I’m using food for line ups. Gemma protesting in the background.

    Hi Tracy,

She’s fine going between treats and toys. I’m using food for line ups in this video. Spring grass us calling her a lot these days. Also, Sprite and right sound similar. Hmmm.

So, this was hard FOR ME. I wasn’t that connected and it shows. Baby dog needed help in tunnel exits and I’m looking forward rather than back at her. I was also saying “get in” instead of tunnel which is Gemma’s cue. One rep I got my direction wrong, but she followed the handling. Left that one out on purpose. I’m not getting the carry out I’d like yet on ‘go.” So, I think I need more toss the toy on the line with me running forward?

It’s supposed to rain tomorrow so I had to put it away. I’ll see how wet it gets and maybe set i5 up Sunday again.

Tried the wrap verbals. Sprite made a few errors, but did great overall. The jump had to be further out to get the wraps. Hopefully next tunnel game after work tomorrow before the rain this weekend.

I still need to work on line ups. But, I love that she’s turning tight out of the tunnel. Tried with Gemma and she nailed the verbals but flew out of the tunnel always! Even with her hey hey command. Hmmm. Very different dogs….

Ok, bar is at 8 in for these sessions. Yay for boring!

I did set point tonight. Odd that you can’t see me on the one side. But, I dragged the toy. Question about a tossed reward. I don’t really want her to jump through the grid afterwards for that. But,I like the toss as a placed toy behind is a big antecedent. Me walking away could ge a toss back or get the toy. Sprite is very level headed around her toys. She likes them, but isn’t cra cra like her sister. You can her Gemma’s protests that it isn’t her turn.

Question on how to measure the distance. Is it center of bump to center of bar? This is a tad over 5 ft distance.

Gotcha on using the toy markers. I’ll be better in future videos. This was filmed yesterday. I could see more connection in sons reps like you said.

This is the modifications for feel the wind in your hair. Of course, it decided to rain after the driest Jan-Mar ever. I’ll see how much mud I have now. Backyard needs to be redone but it’s very expensive.

    Hey Tracy,

I finally dragged out a tunnel. Sprite has seen it a few times. I’ll get my act together. Gemma’s tunnel cue is “ get in.” It’s too close to “get it” her get the toy off the ground cue. I’m changing it to tunnel for Sprite, but I messed up a few times.

    Hey Tracy,

I’m back from my short vacation. Sprite wanted to feel wind in her hair!

I noticed on the set point video you dragged the toy on occasion. But, the original explanation said keep the toy out of your hand. Do you want us to try the moving toy?
