Hey Tracy,

We tried the advanced reverse retrieve AND I closed the crate door. Sprite was not understanding that “get it” was a release from the sit. So, she was slow and confused. I had to say “get it” more than once or “get it, ok” etc.

I don’t think she had issues with the counter movement as much as not understanding when to go.

Hmm, sometimes I happy click, but I thought I got the head turn. We will try again. I’m hopeful I can get a tunnel out this weekend.

So, I repeated the serp with the bowl in a better position. I think?? She’s getting the hang of it. We also dis some more turns since I can bend a little better.

Plus, we signed up for round two starting in March! Unfortunately, I’m not home to do the live presentations yet. Might change in May which could open up the possibility for classes starting after May.

Hey Tracy,

Yes,I’m realize back side wrap might be a different verbal. I just don’t have one. So, I should just leave it out until I come up with one? I guess I could use turn or wrap? But are back and wrap too similar?

Also, on the serp exercises where exactly do you want the reward? You are right that I’m not getting another turn. Do you want it on the take off side of the strike a pose jump? I watched the video again and it looks like they are all on the landing side. But, that doesn’t exactly get the turn away.

So, I braved the mud for the backside video. I’m not exactly getting a slice and she isn’t always going over the jump bump. What do I change? It’s still pretty soft outside.

That makes sense about the bowls. I’ll move them over next time. Ok, I need a verbal backside wrap cue name and threadle wrap name. Ugh.. I’m running out of ideas. I use look for the threadle slice, so I could use in in for threadle wrap. I use close for something else. You use the same wrap cue regardless of the way they turn, correct?

I did turn and burn today. Okay, I swear I watch the videos and listen, but my arms have their own agenda. I’m throwing my cocktail all over!

I’m using my wrap verbals, but I’m not sure she knows them just yet.

Hey Tracy,

What are your backside slice and backside wrap verbals? I’ve only taught Gemma a slice which is “back.” I’ll have to go find the wrap video again. Was tha5 week 6? We didn’t get that far with the wrap and adding motion.

Sprite is still a bit confused about taking the jump before the reward. I don’t want to use toys yet since I’m still value building. She’s making a few mistakes, but mostly working it out. Hard in a tight space, but I still have mud in my yard.

I’ll work on the backside later, but I need over the jumo forward to have more value.

Lol. Sit on my butt training. Gotta like that. Yes the baby bird open mouth to receive the treat cracked me up.

So, she could do the threadle if she was turning right. Turning left was the issue. I left in several mistakes, but she figured it out. I also don’t have great control over leaving food in the bowl until cued yet. I’m a little surprised she did better with a toy. But, yay!

I see a theme with my hands being too high. I’ll work on that.

I’ll see if I can figure that out. She learned to pivot with her head up as that’s how obedience people teach it.

Tried the head turn on a stanchion. She is turning her head on the first turn, but watching my hands (which has food) for the second turn.

Also, tried threadle game. She was coming in but NOT taking the jump. Thoughts on that? We aren’t indicating the jump if we stay still. She just ran parallel to the reward. One side worse than the other. I ended up tossing threats. I can move where the bowl is, but she was clearly confused.

I’m not sure if she likes smack the baby. Gemma did not!

Here is some pivot work. I’m not sure what to put down then won’t roll. She’s reasonably balanced on both sides. I know, feed her head in neutral. Can’t seem to get that part correct.

Hi Tracy,

We haven’t really done line up by my side yet. I can work on that. I’m thinking she needs at least one more session on each side before mixing it up. What do you think? I’m not sure she knows the verbal as much as this direction is getting rewarded. Also, I’m hanging onto her until she looks in the correct direction.

Left turn it is. I did my best to line her up. Didn’t want to twist with going behind me. Back is feeling better! Also, did a toy play video with different verbals I’ll post next. Her first “Zuruck” cue. Mostly, I was just playing though. Sometimes that’s a session in itself!

I’m doing better, but not 100% yet. Is this what you had in mind? I wasn’t sure how to get her set up again to restart the loop. Do I get this side better first or do left in the next session?

We practiced verbal wraps with the bowl. I can sort of move side to side today. Retrieve the thing is a good idea. Gemma picked up the tea bag I dropped yesterday. So helpful!

I’ve thrown out my back. Sigh. So, I’ll see what I can do in the next few days. Gemma and I were supposed to be at a trial. The timing sucks!

I do have marker words for reinforcement is behind you for Gemma. Zuruck is a toy behind you and aft is food in a bowl behind you. Sprite hasn’t learned these yet.

Hey toy play is much different from Gemma’s. She doesn’t get too worked up and likes it well enough. She easily spits the toy, but I should work on going back and forth between food and toys.
