Weather is heading in the right direction! The ground has softened up again. Saphira is done with her laser treatments so no long trips to the sports vet twice a week. I’m caught up with MY classwork. More time for training the baby. πŸ™‚

Here is some set point with the manners minder. Next time I’ll use better treats to toss. I was going to use string cheese but forgot. He did great though.

We got things setup today and had some fun.

Here is Set Point. We need more work on the stay part. πŸ™‚

Here is Wind in Your Hair. He loves this game. No stays.

And some Smiley Face Games. Stupidly I set it up far from the shed so it only got 3 sets of tunnel bags and 2 wings tonight.

I feel like we’re at a good place now and making progress with training.

For some reason it’s not a habit for me to use all my fancy markers in agility. I did finally use it at the end.

Thanks! I’ll do the pattern game if we run into the issue again. I’ll work on doing sits everywhere too so it’s super easy for him. He probably thinks we only do them when doing IGP training. LOL

We did the moving target game at the dog club before our Bye Bye Cookie class last night. He did really well and we worked through all the steps. It also helped take the edge off so he was more content to settle on his cot during talking times in class.

Life got crazy busy. All good stuff. Except Saphira’s spay incision taking forever (leash walking torture) to heal. Sadly, I can’t do daytime open ring or agility classes anymore. And the weather is horribly cold. But we have to be at the end after this cold snap.

So finally weeks later here is some video that I took when we had open ring time. Mostly just working on getting him to move faster. I need to remember to do more tugging at new/distracting places and when he’s fresh. I’ll try to do that this weekend during down time at the agility trial while they’re course building or walking.

    Ann’s Aix πŸ™‚

I have not really started a stay. We have a baby obedience class one. That is all. He has been introduced to the Cato. I can’t remember how much I did with him. He’s done cot work too. I think he would be fine with someone holding him but he’s a big strong boy. Also, loves people and face smashing. I think he’d be fine if he was focused on me.

We just had 2 nice days and now the nasty below zero stuff is coming back.

We have one more in person class and then we are done. I got a part time job so that changes all my daytime plan. It’s in the field that I want to change too so I’m super excited about it. Once I settle into the new work schedule then I’ll see what my evening schedule looks like. But I think it’s ok for him to not be in classes for awhile. I just wish we could work outside more. IN GRASS!

We have open ring tonight so I’m going to do some ‘strike a pose’ on a low jump. I’m not sure what else. Maybe some basic things with a toy to get his arousal up.

Here is some rear cross prop work we did yesterday. He’s good turning left but turning right he didn’t get.

I don’t have any new video but I wanted to answer your questions about class. I now have him jumping 8″ with the Paps and the MaxPup Malinois. πŸ™‚ He’s not running running but he is going faster. I’m also having the instructor put a dish down at the end of lines since he like to run to the dish. The first class back after your post – the instructor that did privates on the other side of the split ring had obedience clients so there was nothing over there. Removing that distraction helped a lot. Then some of our class moved over there to do a little sequence while we did some on our side and it was perfect and not a distraction for him. Last week went well too. I also brought out the lotus ball again. Before our break I had introduced it to him and showed him how to open it. He enjoyed chasing it in class. I put string cheese in it. His tugging isn’t super strong in class. Well, it wasn’t. One week I went to the other side and just did a C jump tunnel jump and ran and he chased and grabbed the toy and he liked that. I had put it away since it was weak tugging but that was when we first went into the big room and there was a private in the other ring so lots of distractions. Also, for starts if it’s not a tunnel then I send him to a dish with cheese in it so I can get a lead out.

We have 2 days of open ring time this week so I should be able to work on some more skills get some video. It’s horribly cold and it snowed so the dogs can be out for like 2 minutes until their feet freeze. They (especially him) are going nuts. We should get a break for a few days soon.

Here are our sessions from tonight at TCOTC’s open ring time

Concept Transfer 1 Parallel Path Commitment
I was happy with how well he did on these. We do short sequences in his in person class and he walks. Jumps are at 12″ in class. He can go up 2″ a month starting on the 8th (18 months). So it’s nice to see that he does have value for the jumps. We haven’t had class for a few weeks and we’re not back until next week so it will be fun to see if he has more value now that we’ve been doing more outside of class.

    Concept Transfer 2 Rotated Sends
The tunnel we did last week was just off the screen to the left. It was tempting him and it did win 1 time.

Strike A Pose Part 1 Foundations For Serps and Threadles 2
I tried to practice having my hand out as a distraction and rewarding him further across my body. Wow, I was doing doing good moving my body tonight. So here are the last few reps when I at least rewarded further across my body. Next I’ll work with a dish or MM on the floor.

Wing Wrap Foundations – Rocking Horse Games Part 1 inside
Again I was having issues moving my body. He did good.

Here is some more games. We have snow but the temps aren’t horrible right now so we just worked in a parking lot. We have open ring time tonight so I’ll do some more rocking horse games on the better surface.

We’re back from Orlando! Mazi ran at the AKC Agility Invitational. It was a great trip. Firi and Saphira got to do a bit of dock diving too. We all did a lot of hiking and even got to train obedience outside with some friends. Firi and Saphira have never trained there and they both were amazing. We just got back last night and beat the snowstorm that happened today.

Puppy agility class at OTR got cancelled today due to the snow but our open ring time at TCOTC did not. The dogs are so happy to be back training. They did so well. Breaks are so good.

So we shared ring time with a lady with Shelties. She had one Sheltie in the other ring that she was training and one Sheltie in the waiting area in a crate. Both barking. Also, he has small dogs in his puppy agility class and is especially in love with a Pap and a Sheltie. So he’s obsessed with small dogs. He he got all body waggy and grunty, like boys do, when he saw this Sheltie when we first came in. But then we went to work and he was not distracted at all. I was so happy!

First we worked on Tunnel Games 1: Shaping And Threadle Foundations. He did awesome IMO.

Then I turned off the camera and moved it to another spot so we could work on wing wraps. He was doing awesome just on verbals. I just rewarded with food from each hand and he went back and forth and I worked back. Nice and confident. Then we did some Turn and Burn. He was amazing. We started with food then when I did the other direction I used a toy. It was so much fun. Went to check the camera and forgot to turn it on. Waaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! So you don’t get to see it.

Sorry for the video dump. I recorded a few days but haven’t had time to make them into videos to post.

Here is drive ahead and pickup with your suggestion of calling him as soon as he picks it up and running away and then switching to another toy.

Decel & Turn with adding toy

Sends & Commitment with adding arousal and then using a toy

Blind Crosses with more distance and double blinds

The beginning of Stealth Self Control from week 1 – I’m not sure what I would add that would be novel so this is the first part

I think his collar grab is good.

His goat tricks 1 and 2 are good too. He’s always climbing on stuff. He lays in the other kitchen counter chair and then he’ll jump off and push the chair over and knock it over and it bangs on the ground and he doesn’t care. Also he’s done lots of wobble board in puppy classes.

Here is prop work with parallel motion – he was walking over the prop going one direction a lot so I didn’t pay him and just turned around and went the other way and paid when a foot stepped on it

    Collection Sandwich

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I got some quick videos in tonight before I had to leave to setup for a trial this weekend. They’re a bit rushed but not horrible.

Here is backing up. It’s been a bit since we did it. For awhile he’s was doing it a lot for a conditioning exercise from his sport vet.

And then I setup a teeter plank on 2 tables for goat tricks 3. This boy has no fear and is jumping on stuff and climbing on things and going on the dogwalk in the yard and turning around. Climbing on things to get to things supposedly put out of his reach. LOL

I hope you’re having a great time at the Open!
