ParticipantDon’t tell the red squirrel but I started parking in the driveway again so I can have room to train in the garage. It’s not perfect but more than in the livingroom.
Here is video of a mix of exercises – focus forward, barrel with more distance, some turn and ‘burn’ with food then toy, decel and turn with toy then food, and then some blinds.
I used string cheese – easy to see and quick to eat.
We’ve been doing parallel sends and I started doing sends to the side.
Training space is hard to come by. Everyone is desperate for it here.
Our toy skills are basically non-existent. It’s been a struggle with her. With food too but that has gotten alot better. Toys have too but so far from where I want to be. We keep making progress. It’s just as a snail’s pace.
At what point should I consider the lesson completed – when we have the Advanced skills down?
Merry Christmas to you and Eric and the dogs! Thanks for all of the great feedback!

ParticipantWe’re still here! Slowly plugging away. Need to take most of this outside (brrrr) so we can have more room.
Here is some backing up, our send to the prop (not our best session of this but I had the camera on so you get to see it – kind of since it moved), and our going around the basket. We’ve done some turn and burn and she likes it but it’s hard to get on camera in the house.

ParticipantThanks for the great feedback!!
Finally got more video last night! Then went to dinner with an out of town friend for hours. So making and uploading today.
Here is progression on our wing wrap – I got the upright in and I’m slowly moving back from it
I probably should have just left this with the wing wrap video. I put the bowls up and did a few ‘get it’ cookies and went into nose touches.
Then we did some Focus Forward – after a few she was kind of poopy about coming back – since I already taught her collar grab = look at me, I am using her harness for traditional collar grab focus forward things
Then then we did some toy play
Then some decel tight turn games – this is the first time we have worked on this exercise
Then we did some of the Thing pre-game. She humored me then said she was done and we trained long enough. LOL I might need to find a new Thing since this bag is kind of slippery when she steps on it.

ParticipantWe finally got started!
Here is the start of wing wrap. Can I use a cone for this? We’re doing cone wraps in our in person class and we’re not progressing very quickly so this might help there.
Also, we just worked on an online class where we put control on a dish and did a collar grab to look at us for permission to go to the dish. The send to the dish was on a verbal. So I think that is why she keeps looking at me when I am not putting the food in the dish right away. So I might have to think on this to see if that will conflict with what we are doing there. It’s R+ control games foundations for bitey sport dogs. The setup is different though and I’m not sitting on the floor.
Here is pre-game 2 with some toy play attempt at the end:

ParticipantI changed mine on the WordPress website since it uses the same service. I noticed it was the same pic when I went there to upload a pic to share with my intro.

ParticipantWeird things like that seem to happen in Snooker often too.
Too bad you weren’t able to get a rerun. 🙁Heather Sather
ParticipantTrial Day Routine
The night before I figure out what I will need and get the van packed. I looked at the start time and running order to see when I need to be there for walking. I will also add time for setup but that varies by organization, indoor/outdoor, trial secretary or not, etc.
I try to find the quietest spot and against a wall to crate. Depending on the trial environment and org I will often crate out of my car.
Eating right could use some work. Although, many trials here have a variety of pretty healthy options. Water is another area that I have alot of room for improvement.
I warm up while I’m warming up my dog. But it’s mostly walking around for warm ups and cool downs. I have her do some spins and backing up and stretching front feet on things or play bows.
For quiet time I’ll hang out in my van while we wait our turn. Or I’ll take my dog for a walk. I find if I sit inside and try to read of listen to podcasts or watch a show that I get talked to alot. Not necessarily a bad thing but I know that if I want to be undisturbed that I have to leave the building.
I try to stay positive and not make negative comments about the courses or how things are running, etc. If I’m unhappy with a run I’ll go for a walk until I can let the negative emotion go and refocus in a more positive productive way.
So I feel like I’m doing pretty well expect for the whole sleep enough, eat well, and drink water thing. 🙂
