ParticipantHi Tracy,
Sprite couldn’t do the threadke yesterday so I tried to set a mini either or course in the backyard. I’m in glasses due to contact lens issues so that is definitely different and makes my peripheral vision even more challenging.
I trained the threadle mostly with my arm back, but I’m wondering if a cross arm might be useful here?
Is there something different I can do to help her?

ParticipantHi Tracy
Here’s the live exercises. It’s pretty hot in the mid 80s and both of us got tired. It took me awhile to build the course in the hot sun snd wrestle with a heavy 20 ft tunnel. Gemma ran, then Sprite for the warm up and exercise 1 and 2. Then, Gemma and Sprite again. We need to revisit threadles. I couldn’t get the turn and she was too hot to work on it. The last exercise she’s pretty hot and mentally fried. So, I’ll see if I can just set a few jumps and eotk on the turn.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantThank you! I laughed at your “big mad” comment. Gemma has definite opinions and is happy to express them always. Thanks for letting me show a clip.
I’m giving Sprite a few days off from jumping and can get 4-5 jumps and a tunnel in the car for the park sometime this week. Do you think the live exercises would be best or the pop outs?
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantThanks Tracy,
I didn’t think about a reverse spin on 12. But, I did feel like 11-15 required a lot of patience and I was waiting with no place to go. Here is a snippet of Gemma. The whiskey worked well for her. The German in the full course created a wide turn although she was on course. But, that was both of our last runs. I might have been tired. Both dogs are resting today! Mistily my blinds are more timely with Gemma. Can you believe she’s 10?

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Sprite says thank you for reminding the Mama that she’s trying really hard.
I had rented the training yard today AND my agility instructor asked what I wanted left out. She actually set the big jumpers course for me! That was really nice. I was going to do the smaller stuff, but we tried just jumpers course one and broke it down. I was lucky it was all set up for me. The spacing is tight and that jump is very close to the tunnel entrance at 4.
I struggled with timing of the blinds as I’m not trusting that she won’t grab something else along the way. So, most are late. Awesome weaves! Nailed it. I also tried a whiskey cross at the end, but we don’t have that skill. So, I switched to a back to a serp. Once I tried to go on the outside of the jump and tripped over the jump. Left that rep out. My spatial awareness is hard as I don’t have great peripheral vision. I did a whiskey cross once and then a German turn with Gemma. Sprite and I don’t have those same skills yet. Gemma nailed the entire the course twice after I pieced parts together.
Also, I tried to turn into Sprite more for the FC at 10 and I think it really helped her. But, what’s the timing of me leaving? I am tending to wait until she sets hoping she will put in that extra stride. But, I know the counter motion might help that as well. I do remember a drill where we stood still on a jump and Sprite just took off in extension still. No motion doesn’t seem to help her add a stride. It’s very hard to do that!
I’m not sure about the new video rules when you are breaking stuff down. Hopefully, this complies. I showed more of the middle to end as we needed to piece more parts together. But, I was good and only did the full course with Sprite once. She did great even with my late blinds. I wanted to show one clip of Gemma, but I wasn’t sure if I could. She nailed it twice!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantThanks Tracy,
Adding the tunnel proved to be very distracting. Sprite doesn’t like to put in collection strides. Sequence one proved most challenging. Either the tunnel OR more often the off course after 4. I tried to get better timing for the last turn, but didn’t master it. She turned the wrong way on hard decel a few times. Timing of the spin was late. I was busy managing 4-5 as she really wanted the off course jump.
I can’t see setting these jumps any closer. I’d have off courses everywhere.
Sequence two I forgot that you started on the inside. Oops!
Sequence three no extra tunnel, yay! But, pretty wide turns. She was getting tired. There were my two dogs and a bonus from her agility class, so time between runs.
Sequence one:
Sequence two: my spin on it! Lol
Sequence three:
I might be able to set the big jumping sequence tomorrow.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here’s step one and two. I struggled getting the correct line on sequence two as I gad the jump angle wrong and needed a threadle to be correct. I finally caught a clue and figured it out when I added the jump back in. I’ll go again tomorrow and add the tunnel.
It’s doubtful I can build the entire jumpers course, but it looks like you have breakouts for that too. I have the training yard Friday so I’ll see what I can get done.
Ideas to tighten that turn at the end? I’m not great at pulls.

ParticipantHi Bobbie,
I used a snuffle mat before and after each turn at agility class Wed night and yesterday at a private lesson. That will be something I can use on a trial site in my canopy set up. I think it helped both dogs!
I’m not sure Sprite would struggle with super bowls, but it might not be allowed on AKC trial sites. I’ll see what I can come up with. The pattern up and down game would be fine. But, finding a spot away from all dogs to have bowls out would be more challenging.
We got a few days of nice weather and today it’s rain again. The practice was my friends house on Sunday. Sprite stayed engaged in a relatively new environment. She was there once before to learn to swim in the pond. But, it was over a year ago! There is lots to chase and chickens were out. On Wed class night there were sheep visible through the fence. That blew her puppy brain!
The second clip is Tuesday class while another dog was out running. I didn’t have my nat with me. Last clip is noise from me and Sprite running at a seminar. It’s from about a week ago.
Thanks for all of your tips!
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantYes…the last clip I just wanted to see if I could do a lateral lead out. The send to the blind was my first choice.
Yes please to RC class. They aren’t easy. I’m especially bad at RC wraps. I THINK we are almost done with the rain.
I was really pleased with Sprite. Big course, full height and new environment! Her first UKI trial is in 10 days. Jumpers and speedstakes. NFC unless one course looks super easy.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHey Tracy,
My friend put up a UKI course and it stopped raining! Here’s parts of it with back chaining. The weave entrance with the RC is beyond her pay grade. She hasn’t seen 12 poles in several months. Also, in the corner after the blue tunnel I thought I cued a RC to turn left. But, she wrapped.
Thanks do much for a great class. Hopefully you’ll do something else soon as I believe we are done with rain! I hope…..
P.d. I don’t know how to drop in the course map. Its modified and 1-13. Had to substitute a jump for a tunnel.

ParticipantHi Bobbie,
I’m not sure how to do super bowls in a trial setting. Training on the grounds isn’t generally permitted. I’m pretty sure I can do a snuffle mat by my set up or an up and down game. How would you incorporate Super Bowl gane with food in a trial environment?
Yes..Gemma did particularly well!
We had a day of decent weather before two more days of rain. I included part of a training session in flow for you. Also, I’m playing with the idea of go through my legs to line up at my side. Middle won’t work for me, but this might. Sprite definitely seems to be a lefty! Here’s a quick session introducing the concept with my reward off of me marker. I’ll do some more and see if it’ll work.
Ginger McMullen
ParticipantHi Tracy,
Yes, she was dropping more bars than usual. The spacing is very tight and the grass is wet and slippery still. I’ll lower them if we get another chance. More rain yesterday and today. Enough already!
I’m still confused about using the word switch. It makes sense when it was wing, jump, switch lead to the tunnel which is a U turn. It makes less sense (to me) when it’s wing, jump do NOT take the tunnel and take the jump across the box. If I say switch for both turns over the jump after the wing what determines the degree of turn? Also, your comment about more upper body when it’s the jump jump combo means extend my arm out?
We also got the backside of that second jump a fair amount. What do I do to get the front side? More upper body and turn sooner?
On the switch out of the tunnel to the jump I felt like she was anticipating and slicing rather than turn on the flat first. That’s why I did a few reward to my hand. Tandem turns are hard for me to get the mechanics right.
I knew I did too many reps as it was my only chance this week to get something done. The park would have been better. However, the backyard allowed a few sessions throughout the day versus all at the park.
I was surprised the few times I said tunnel and she chose the jump. I’m pretty sure her brain was done by then.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
My yard was usable for a day. Today and tomorrow another 1/2-1 in of rain. So, I hurried to set this up. The spacing is tight and I know I overtrained as I wanted to get it done. This is over a few sessions. Once she backed out of the tunnel she then kept taking the jump rather than the tunnel. I’m sure she was tired.
I’m posting this before my internet goes down again. It was out for 18 hrs. No cable or internet….

ParticipantHi Bobbie,
We are still working on the crate relaxation with agility noise. I didn’t show it, but no whining the last session. We went to an agility trial today for a short visit. Sprite worked on LLW which is hard and just observing from a distance. I tried to film a short down stay of 30 seconds for you. Also, the Cato board sit with alternating dogs working.

ParticipantI totally wish I lived closer! Part of the slow sit is I was using a cookie before and I’ve taken it away. But, the Cato board helped a lot!
It’s supposed to rain again starting Sunday for a few days. So, it’ll likely be a week before I can do much. Should I move on to the next exercise to get it in? I’ll add a wing to this and the other set ups for speed after that.
We are working on a start line routine which is why I added the leash. But, she struggles to sit if she’s tired in general and isn’t the fastest to sit to begin with. Plus, when I took the cookie out of the picture she apparently didn’t know sit in this context. Good to know!
I am doing UKI in April. Just jumpers and speedstakes NFC. Can I actually bring in a Cato board? I think I’ll work on the tug, tug, tug sit game for her.
Thanks Tracy!
