ParticipantI do a lot of reset “search cookies” but don’t think I’ve implemented them in that way consistently so yes I will totally do that. I try to keep it super light and that seems to help avoiding fails as I can
Our tugging is better and part of my standing weird is that moment of trying to not hold her collar get a cookie on her and let go before she goes with out me😂. Work in progress for sure but huge improvements there!
On the turning away stuff- she did really well with this but I feel like it’s because she’s patterned right so the direction I stand or side we are on helps her , which is fine- I assume it will transfer over time to true understanding?
The checks and digs- on wings she doesn’t get that unless I set her up the exact same way- like she has no option other than to go around a wing based on where she is standing since there’s nothing else out thereJust planning for when I’m back on my feet. Covid is kicking my ass hard and I’m feeling flustered for sure!
She really is fast so I’m totally good with cheats! I can throw a toy BUT our retrieve is a work in slow progress- as long as there’s no big motion ( like running) she will bring it back. If her arousal is in the chill zone- she will bring it back. We have been working this literally daily with huge huge improvements but we aren’t there yet so I will adjust to help her get the wings or toss when I know I have a chance to get it back 😫.

ParticipantCan’t believe it’s been a week since my last posts! Chata and I have been working at our relationship and had a lovely seminar this past weekend. She worked on her tunnel exits and some baby go lines.
Outside of that- here’s our most recent training. We are still sorting out toys vs food and trying to keep frustration down. I’m still working on my words but feel great improvement
On our wing proofing- if the wing is any closer she has too high fail right. With it this far the tunnel gets harder.
Tunnel exits. That tunnel is long, she is fast so I sent from an angle I thought I could manage. Not sure if she should sit so I can lead out, shorter tunnel or just keep working her up to enough drive she will find that wing when I’m no where in site lol!
I was thrilled with her lefts and rights. This was the first time we took it off mini pini
Proofing/ working up levels of left and right. Not sure my body was the way it was supposed to be? Dropped bars cuz I was too close to the wings when rewarding.

ParticipantThank you. So basically it comes down to an error in planning and a massive one. The gates are always up and closed but with the zoom seminar, I had no place to set the phone that could be seen through the gates. That’s changed everything! And when I train alone I always use reset cookies- which is why it seemed mind blowing today that she left. And she doesn’t have access to steal because I know she won’t bring it back in training unless I set up the scene right.
So I did all the things she has never seen before and she doesn’t have the history.
Oh and she’s almost 7 months now 😂. She’s so fricken small tho I can see where 5 months comes into mind.Thank you. 🥰🥰🥰

ParticipantI have a question ( super long sorry) and I think I could put it under the topic “clean mechanics” since it isn’t really a handling game.
My puppy was frustrated today at a seminar and I want to avoid what happened from happening again.
A few variables- the environment changed- the set up of training space And I was super nervous.
The skill we worked on- basically wrapping cones she has very clear verbal cues but today the words changed based on the seminar I was in. After a couple reps she left me and stole a toy. I can’t say I blame her. How can I help her be more resilient? She’s a puppy and she’s a Vizsla ( totally stereo typing them I know) and I want to be clear and not have her feel like what we are doing is not absolutely awesomeI also notice that when we work on building layers- she does them, she gets her rewards- no failures, but after her reward she , if allowed will want to run off and be done. It’s the complexity and it’s not that she didn’t have the understanding of each piece. you could look at the proofing game with the wing and tunnel- she can rock it and after maybe two reps of doing the wing vs the tunnel ( she prefers tunnel) she would prefer to exit stage left.
I have not had dogs like this in many years and I want to be better for her. She’s quick and busy and that doesn’t help. She wants me to have my act together 150 percent of the time.

ParticipantNo worries on the yes 🙂 now that I have added markers that one slips in. I used to always reward on my yes and yes only but not my heads learning new things and it’s slipping in when it shouldn’t.
Tina Reynolds
ParticipantIt’s embarrassing! 😂. Ok so she was mostly trying to snag toy. Connection and verbals could be better. At One point she did snag it on me, so then I was trying to hide it which didn’t help. I did get a cookie in and this ends right where the walking and calm starts.
Tina Reynolds
ParticipantSmiley face- big learning moment- we can only do this at a walk and we (me) have to be calm. The tunnel spirals here. I saved you from the running clip. There was a lot of barking and jumping so we slowed it down. Going back to wings and adding motion but wanted to see where her understanding of combining things was.
I also need to back as I did not teach her left or right so she does not understand to take the 2 wings and not wrap.

ParticipantI will look for alternatives while I work on retrieve☺️ Because that has become a long term challenge.
It depends on the toy- tennis ball she will bring but I do t like using them based on how she grabs them
She can bring my a toy when I’m on the matted space at the building but In the larger space no unless she’s really tired or I am slick about timing. Sometimes 2 toys work but not alwaysTina Reynolds
ParticipantQuick question- with the wind beneath your hair- if I place a toy down she will take off. Our retrieve in large space is not good. Not sure I can leave a long enough line to catch it. Should I instead work more distance On wing ( once she gets better understanding). Am I adding a go verbal yet? I assume not yet ?

ParticipantI am having a hard time with markers – partly because Of what we do in obedience and keeping it clear tho that’s on me. So I use a search cue for find treat in floor- mostly for reset cookie. a get it cue- I realize I use it in context of impulse control so like release to a toy in my hand or from a sit or control position. My last 3 dogs have never had issues but doesn’t mean I’m not open to changing I just not sure where I want to break that line down.
So I can use catch for throwing back. What do you use for say a release to you- maybe they are coming to you and not ahead. Maybe they are in a stay and you want them to break to you for whatever reason?Yes the sits- what is said here stays here like in Vegas 🤣 but I regret doing some of the obedience stuff first because it mucked up my cues and yes it’s way more body language. But it was I needed to get this puppy into a class setting quick and didn’t want to upset the instructor. It’s not a bad thing just is what it is and I need to make adjustments for her. She is a dog of you do x,y,z three times and that’s imbedded for life with her :).
We will keep trucking along !!

ParticipantOur wings are happier- I am learning that our toy is creating some can’t think moments in general
Chata sits are weak. I am working on some different ways to motivate and maintain. I swear there’s something in the Vizsla DNA. She gets it with treats- I posted some intermittent treat sits so you can see she’s way more confident. Also- I’m seeing a timing issue of my cue so will adjust on that.
Anyway here’s bits of where we are at.

ParticipantIt is before collar is involved so I will work to create An alternate. Remember since her very first video with you- she uses her mouth a lot. Fun not fun. She has been know to nip you in the rear end on various occasions. And I realized I didn’t add great punctuation in my last question The question was should I stop the game. Ignore it or work through the situation which sounds like best choice is to work through the mechanics and create a situation where she is less likely to feel the need.☺️
Tina Reynolds
ParticipantThanks!! The biting just started so it caught me off guard for sure! She is lifting herself I’m not pulling her 🤣. She also comes up on my leg and well gets herself all over aroused ( also not by invite) I laugh but also know it needs to be helped lol.
The collar seems to be more frustrating of the wanting to go go go and exacerbated by the toy after playing. I played around today with it and different mechanics.
Question- when I use the food to swap out the toy- she’s good but about 50 percent she takes a quick bite at me still. Stop the game, ignore and hope it diminishes as I work through the collar arousal?

ParticipantHere’s the collection part 2- this made me giggle as this was our first go at this. I completely tore my family room apart so I have a dang space to train!!
The first rep is for your entertainment. Talk about late !!
Baby retrieves- ok so here’s the thing. We have been working on retrieves since she came home! All the same ways you train it. She was doing awesome- and then she started the age of independence 😃
So this is where I am at- in familiar places all good as long as there’s limited space. She’s great if I actually call her like a recall.
Where we aren’t good- when she is highly excited even in small spaces and or when we move to a new space.
This is a new space- so I’m thinking quit while I was ahead? Was she even bringing it because I sort of caught her on the drive by. And do we just keep it under super wraps every time I try a new space or a new toy or her arousal state? I just feel like I’m spinning wheels.
Tina Reynolds
ParticipantSo we are just starting the foundation for flyball. Recalls have been great, balls are mostly for bringing but that will take a bit more time and we are doing the mat turning on the floor which yes! She’s a lefty.
I didn’t even notice she turned the other way. I will try it at Fleischmann field. My new house is not set up for training- cuz my training room is housing 3 barn cats in the winter. Sigh lol. So will certainly trouble shoot that!!She’s getting more and more jacked for sure. She will tug between treats but I had hot dogs and that was her first time with them so I knew tugging would be a struggle and I didn’t have a place far enough to go so we just rolled with the food and singing 🙂
