Zig Zag – Finally coming together!

Rear crosses – YAY!! I think I was pretty late to start on the left turns, but I think we’re getting it.

I didn’t ask for double wraps, but this is coming along!

Serps…because you just can’t get enough

Tried to do a few more exercises today, but her brain had melted.

    Tracy,
    Two things:
    1. Can you recommend someone online to help me retrain River’s weaves?
    2. Is it possible to start to show the ‘final product’ or set up concept before the “how-to” part of the videos? Ex: the serp set-up (wing, jump, reward placement) was so much easier to understand when you explained the full serp set up. There are lots of potential serp scenarios, so it was helpful to know which type of set up you were thinking of – you explained it partially in the live class, and the reward part in my forum post. I can work more effectively at home when I get the idea of how the final behaviour would look, beyond the scope of the exercise. I am envisioning like, a map example and then the obstacles disappear to leave the actual exercise set up. I know you sometimes show the “big dog” version at the end. Angles are really hard to interpret in the videos sometimes. I love that you have started to change your filming angle within one session so that we can see what the dog sees and what the handler sees. It makes a big difference!!
    Thanks

    Serps and Threadle Proofing

L/R Mini Pinney – we are finally making some progress. The first time we did this was a disaster.

Ladder Grid 5.5 feet between jumps. Bars on ground, except the 3rd at 4″. Toy approx 15 feet beyond last jump.

Serp serpety serp serp. I thought I had it split down enough but we still had an error. It was better though. I changed to a left turn and it all fell apart! I was so surprised that she flanked the whole thing since she didn’t do that with the open jump on the right turn. We were fighting the wind and the wing were flying, so I’ll have to revisit this one another day.

The first night we did this she was PERFECT, even on the more advanced pattern. And now…

Set Point. She’s landing equal distance from take-off, but not in the middle. 5.5 feet apart, 6″, 8″, 10″ on second jump.

Serps – still a struggle, but better. I moved the toy and rotated the jump a bit. Should the toy be in line with where the jump bar would be if the jump was flat?

We struggled here. She was slightly better outside. If I put the toy on the ground, she’d bypass the jump and go for the toy. If I held the toy, she would pause before the bar.

    Set point: 5.5 feet
    1. Stationary toy x2
    2. Moving toy x2
    3. 8″ bar, moving toy x2

More tunnel turns and GO. HOW DO YOU MAKE IT GO STRAIGHT?!? Was it the fence? She could rocket out to a placed toy, but I couldn’t get her to take the wing on the right side without the toy planted out there.

Hi Tracy, thanks for all of the feedback!

I forgot to post the distances and height of the set Point. Let me know if this changes your advice:

First reps: 5 feet apart, both bars 6″
Changed to 6 feet apart, both bars at 6″
    Changed 2nd bar to 10″
If you think the bars should be lower than 6″, I’ll switch to my wing jumps or bumps. Let me know. Thanks!

We got the tunnels out just for you! It’s pretty wet still, but the snow is leaving!
